Weed Management Policy
Cutleaf Lawn Care & Garden Services
At Cutleaf, our approach to weed management focuses on reducing weed populations while promoting the long-term health of your lawn and garden.
This policy explains how weed management works, what you can expect from our services, and why successful weed control requires an ongoing maintenance program rather than a single treatment.
This policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions. Where there is any inconsistency, our Terms & Conditions take precedence.
-
Weeds are a natural part of the environment.
Every property contains weed seeds within the soil, commonly referred to as the soil seed bank. These seeds can remain dormant for many years before germinating when conditions become favourable.
For this reason, no contractor can permanently eliminate weeds from a property.
Our objective is to significantly reduce weed populations and maintain your property through regular monitoring and treatment.
-
Many clients expect that once weeds are removed, they will never return.
Unfortunately, this is not how weeds behave.
New weeds may appear due to:
Existing seeds already in the soil.
Wind carrying seed from neighbouring properties.
Birds and wildlife.
Rainwater runoff.
Fresh mulch or soil.
Construction or landscaping works.
Seasonal weather conditions.
The appearance of new weeds does not necessarily indicate a failed treatment.
-
Effective weed control usually requires multiple visits.
Depending on the weed species and the level of infestation, complete control may require:
Regular hand weeding.
Multiple herbicide applications.
Follow-up inspections.
Seasonal maintenance.
Lawn and garden improvements to reduce future weed growth.
Some weeds may require treatment over several months before acceptable control is achieved.
-
Our team may use one or more of the following methods depending on the situation.
Hand Weeding
Suitable for:
Garden beds.
Vegetable gardens.
Around sensitive plants.
Small infestations.
Hand removal helps reduce weeds while minimising disturbance to desirable plants.
-
This may include:
Hoeing.
Scraping.
Brush cutting.
Whipper snipping.
Cultivation where appropriate.
Mechanical methods are often used for larger infestations or where herbicides are unsuitable.
-
Selective herbicides target certain weed species while minimising damage to healthy lawns.
These products are commonly used in turf areas.
Several applications may be required depending on the weed species.
-
Non-selective herbicides kill most actively growing vegetation they contact.
These products are generally used on:
Paths.
Gravel areas.
Fence lines.
Hardstand areas.
Industrial sites.
Care is taken to minimise overspray; however, surrounding vegetation may still be affected if exposed.
-
All herbicides are applied strictly in accordance with Australian label directions and manufacturer recommendations.
Applications are only carried out under suitable weather conditions to minimise drift and maximise effectiveness.
Where required, treated areas may need to remain undisturbed for a period after application.
Clients should follow any instructions provided by our team regarding access to treated areas.
-
Many herbicides do not produce immediate visible results.
Depending on the product used and weather conditions:
Weeds may begin showing signs of control within several days.
Some treatments may take several weeks before full results become visible.
Certain perennial weeds require repeated applications.
Visible browning is not always the first sign of a successful treatment.
-
Treatment effectiveness is influenced by environmental conditions including:
Rainfall.
Wind.
Temperature.
Humidity.
Frost.
Plant growth stage.
Poor weather conditions may require treatments to be postponed or repeated.
-
The best weed control comes from maintaining healthy lawns and gardens.
We recommend:
Regular mowing.
Proper fertilising.
Correct irrigation.
Mulching garden beds.
Healthy plant growth.
Routine maintenance.
Healthy lawns naturally compete with weeds and reduce opportunities for new infestations.
-
Depending on your location, we commonly manage:
Bindii.
Clover.
Cape Weed.
Onion Weed.
Oxalis.
Dandelions.
Winter Grass.
Nutgrass (where appropriate).
Flatweed.
Broadleaf weeds.
Annual grasses.
Different weed species require different treatment methods.
-
Some areas may require special consideration, including:
Vegetable gardens.
Newly planted areas.
Sensitive native vegetation.
Waterways.
Children's play areas.
Pet enclosures.
Alternative treatment methods may be recommended where appropriate.
-
To assist treatment effectiveness, clients should:
Follow any aftercare instructions provided.
Avoid mowing lawns immediately before or after treatment where advised.
Delay watering where instructed.
Keep children and pets away from treated areas until it is safe to return.
Advise us of any concerns before treatment begins.
-
The most effective weed control is achieved through regular maintenance rather than one-off treatments.
Routine inspections allow our team to identify new infestations early, reducing treatment costs and improving long-term results.
-
To help us achieve the best results, we ask clients to:
Advise us of any concerns before the visit.
Inform us of newly planted or delicate plants.
Keep access clear.
Ensure pets are secured.
Notify us of any irrigation or underground services that may affect the work.
-
While every effort is made to achieve the best possible results, Cutleaf cannot guarantee complete or permanent weed eradication.
Successful weed management depends on many factors beyond our control, including:
Weather.
Soil conditions.
Irrigation.
Existing weed seed banks.
Neighbouring properties.
Future seed dispersal.
Our commitment is to provide professional advice, appropriate treatment and ongoing management to help keep your property looking its best.
